Terms of use

Last updated:

Draft. This is a plain-language draft and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It is not final.

1. Who we are

“Geovoya”, “we” and “us” refer to the operators of geovoya.com and the Geovoya desktop app.

2. The software license

The Geovoya desktop app is free software, licensed under theGNU General Public License, version 3 or later (GPL-3.0-or-later). Your rights to use, copy, change and share the app come from that license, and nothing in these terms limits them. Third-party components in the app have their own licenses, listed on our open source page.

3. Acceptable use

Geovoya is made for legitimate purposes such as developing and testing location-aware apps, product demos, and protecting your privacy. When you use it, you agree:

  • to use it only on devices you own or are authorised to control;
  • to follow the terms of service of the apps and services you use. Many forbid falsified or simulated location, and breaking those terms can get your account suspended;
  • not to use it to commit fraud, deceive people or organisations in harmful ways, get around legal requirements, evade law enforcement, or harass or stalk anyone;
  • to follow the laws that apply to you.

You are responsible for how you use Geovoya.

4. Third-party services

The app uses services we don’t run, including OpenStreetMap tiles, Photon place search and OSRM routing. They may be unavailable, rate-limited or changed at any time, and their own terms apply. Map data ©OpenStreetMap contributors.

5. Your phone

Setting up Geovoya means turning on developer features on your phone (Developer Mode on iPhone, USB debugging on Android) and, on Android, installing a mock-location helper. Understand these changes before you make them. A simulated location can stay active after an unexpected disconnect. Use Restore, or restart the phone, to return to your real location. Don’t rely on Geovoya where an accurate location matters for safety, such as emergency calls or navigation.

6. No warranty

As the GPL says, Geovoya is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. We don’t guarantee that it works with every phone, OS version or app, or that apps on your phone will accept a simulated location. Some setups haven’t been tested on physical hardware yet.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, account suspensions by third-party services, or damage to devices resulting from your use of Geovoya or this website.

8. Paid services

Geovoya Pro is a subscription billed monthly or yearly through Stripe. Prices are shown in US dollars on this website; the amount you pay, including any tax, is confirmed at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Billing in your account, and Pro stays active until the end of the paid period. If a payment fails, Pro may stay active for a short grace period while you update your payment method. Refunds are handled case by case unless the law where you live requires otherwise.

You’re responsible for keeping your email account secure, because sign-in links are sent there. One account may be signed in on a limited number of computers at once.

9. Trademarks

“Geovoya” and the Geovoya logo are our brand. The GPL covers the code, not the right to present a modified version as the official Geovoya. iPhone and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc., Android is a trademark of Google LLC, and Windows is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation.

10. Changes

We may update these terms. We’ll change the date above when we do.
